The Vow of Diversity

He wakes to the sound of work: Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
And quickly retaliates against the day: Snooze.
A moment of authenticity before putting on the mask.
This is not what I want.
24% Actively Disengaged, 62% Not Engaged.
48% Deplorable, 52% Make Me Great Again.
They want to replace him with a robot.
Or a black woman, or a Latino, or someone in China.
Something cheap that doesn’t complain.

She wakes to the sound of crying: Wah! Wah! Wah! Wah! Wah!
And quickly radiates to the day: My baby.
A moment of care before putting on the mask.
This is what I want.
24% wanting to be with her child, 62% wanting to eat that day.
52% single mother, 48% awake at three jobs.
They want to replace her with a robot.
Or a man, or a teenager, or someone who puts her career first.
Something reliable that doesn’t struggle.

The managers wake to the sound of applause: Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
And quickly pretend they weren’t dozing off: Coffee.
One of many moments in the eighty hour week.
I want my life back.
80% increased quarterly profits, 20% lies.
50% leaders, 50% drowning swamp creatures.
They want to lay them off, try out Holacracy.
Better corporate culture, retention of top talent.
Something that inspires the Millennials.

The vow of diversity: I will include them too, even them. No one left behind.

The vow of compassion: I will open my eyes to their suffering and care.

The vow of profit: I will create value for all stakeholders, even them.
